Welcome everyone to THEJNSREPORT’S: THE FILM COMMITTEE: 3rd Edition

In this 3rd edition of The Film Committee we add some new and some not so new films to the must watch list.

“Mystic Pizza”, “Premium Rush”, “Looper”, “Carnage”, and “Dream House”

Jesse Murphy:  This week I go way back to a film that was in the beginning of Julia Roberts career as a must have for the film library.  “Mystic Pizza” 1988.  It’s so unreal that I can remember this movie as a kid and now see it again as an adult and still be able to say wow!!  Awesome movie!!!

Steve D: My pick this time around as a must see and more likely than not a must add to your film library is  Premium Rush 2012 starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Premium Rush deals with the dangerous life of a bike messenger in NYC who ends up entwined with the real life horrors of people trafficking, and a crooked compulsive gambling cop.  Great cinematography and story telling.

Akan Bosemann: Has anyone seen “Looper” 2012?  For any Sci-Fi fans out there this is a definite must see.  Time travel with an interesting twist is found in this film.  Fair warning though for those who are sensitive to violent scenes, this film is packed with violence while telling its story.  I found myself yelling at Bruce Willis’ younger self character for his repeated displays of disrespect and stupidity.

T.D Moody: An excellent cast and story which deals with humanity and our flaws, fears, and silliness is “Carnage” year of production 2011.  Starring Jodie Foster, John C Reilly, Kate Winslet, and Christopher Waltz.  This film resonated so powerfully with me because it deals with something we all struggle with as human beings and that is being free to be honest with ourselves and those in our lives about issues we often skirt or ignore.

Laura Jones: My selection this week is an excellently written and acted psycho drama entitled Dream House 2011.   Starring the oh so incredibly sexy Daniel Craig aka Bond, and awesome actresses Rachel Weisz, and Naomi Watts.  This movie is like a hoge poge mix of The Uninvited meets the Amtyville Horror, and The Number 23.  A must see for fans of this genre.

Feel free to tell us some of your favorite films and whats on your must see/must have list.

Till next time this has been the Film Committee 3rd Edition.

Ex-CIA technician who leaked Verizon court order comes forward

This man is a hero not a traitor. Let us all put on our thinking caps and not be distracted by the media and NSA portrayal of this brave man.

Remember the film “Enemy of the State”. They use Hollywood and Mass Media to subliminally if not literally tell us what they are doing to our rights on a daily basis.

Again let us not be distracted from the truth he revealed. We the citizens of the U.S. are being violated and spied upon by our own government without our consent. In closing I’ll ask the question, What does the word Fascii mean?

Welcome to THEJNSREPORT’S: Being Black in America (Chad Johnson headed to Jail)

Written by Akan Bosemann

Chad “Ocho Cinco” Johnson, found out today what being a Black Male let alone Celebrity can expect to encounter in the judicial system.  Prejudice and Racism are alive and well and always donning various outfits.   Some of them old, some of them new, some with face lifts to present time tested tried and true practices.

For those of you who haven’t heard about this by now.  Here is the crux of the situation.  Chad Johnson former NFL pro bowl wide receiver had a domestic violence case stemming from an incident he had last summer with his newly wed wife, a reality show actress.

He was put on probation and missed a meeting with his P.O. and so he had a court date today to address that.  The plea deal reached would allow that he wouldn’t have any jail time and was all set until an ego-maniacally acting judge revoked the deal because, as she stated she didn’t believe he was taking the court case seriously by patting his attorney on the ass and saying good job.

Now before you leap to the conclusion he deserved what he got one has to understand the context of what was unfolding right before our eyes.  First off, an agreement had already been reached.  The judge was satisfied with the deal.  Chad was then asked if he was happy with the services and representation his attorney provided to him by the judge.

This is important because the judge asked him the question.   She went on to tell him that he should be very happy with his attorney and that she knows he’s a good attorney and does good work.  Chad tells her his attorney’s awesome and he is happy with his representation.  It is at that moment that he lightly pats his attorney as most athletes do to one another on the ass.

The sheriffs along with some other people present in the courtroom then laugh openly in response.  He did what came natural to him as an athlete in response to the judge’s prodding him almost imploring him to demonstrate physically how grateful he should have been to have this plea agreement come out good for him.

Then suddenly, she snaps and says she’s not accepting the agreement and asks if Chad thinks there’s something funny about the days events.  Chad never smiled or laughed and says he doesn’t find anything funny.  He even looked behind him at the people who were laughing.  She yells the whole court room was laughing and she isn’t accepting the plea deal.

If you view the video footage of the black sheriffs who laughed they suddenly stop laughing when they realize their laughter just got Chad Johnson a fellow black person sent to jail for thirty days.  Yet Chad gets the blame from Stephen A Smith and Skip Bayless.  It doesn’t matter that they believe he was stupid.

The judge simply over reacted and took her emotions out on him for what others were doing.  If anything the judge should have realized he (Chad) has no control over the actions of other people.  In addition it was the sheriffs who were unprofessional in their response by laughing out loud.

TMZ’s Harvey Levin spoke to all these points and I was surprised to say the least, to see and hear him in defense of Chad Johnson.  That woman needs to be in jail for thirty days for her gross over reaction.  Even the attorney whose ass was patted said he didn’t believe it was in any way meant as a sign of disrespect to the court.

America take a good look at yourself in the face and dare cry about how black people are always complaining about injustice.  Here we have another example of it on video.  The evidence is indisputable if you’re a reasonable and rational thinking person.

If not God bless you that some day your mind will be lifted out of your ass.  At the end of the day what I took away from what I saw was a white female judge satisfying herself and her ego by arbitrarily sending a Black Man to jail as if she had just undergone a rite of passage.  Sick to my stomach!!

Crispy Skin Salmon with Homemade Gnocchi and Thai Basil & Chilli Pesto

I’m a fan of Pasta especially with Pesto sauce but when you add Salmon and Gnocchi with Chilli, you’ve done did it!!!! In a word Yassum!!!! Viste muy delicioso!!!

homemadewithmess's avatarHomemade With Mess

I love gnocchi yet I have rarely made it before, I think I have made it once but I guess it can’t have been that great as it wasn’t memorable. This receipt however, I will remember and it was sooooo tasty. It really adds something when you add herbs and parmesan to it, because you turn what could be something quite bland and doughy into a lovely soft little flavoursome treat. My one word of advice would be to make them as small as I describe below, I made mine pretty big and they do swell slightly when you cook them.

You may find that this is a large quantity for 2 people, but make it anyway as you can always have another meal from it the next day, or even freeze them for the future!

Welcome to THEJNSREPORT’S: BBQue’s Smoke Shack Experience

Location: 668 6th Ave, NY between 20th and 21st Street.

ETA: 9pm

Bright Lights in the Big City. Yes Suh!!

Bright Lights in the Big City. Yes Suh!!

Several months back I decided to check out the Smoke Shack after doing some site seeing and photography.  When I saw the sign in their window that said they were voted “Best Wings” in NYC I vowed I find out if this indeed was true.

The ordering station...Anyone home? Who wants to work anymore?

The ordering station…Anyone home? Who wants to work anymore?

They presented front and center "The Evidence" of their claim to fame. :D

There's a reason people are in here.

There’s a reason people are in here.

While I normally prefer to sit in and eat I wasn’t quite feeling up to staying out to eat so I decided to get my order to go.  While I waited for someone to come and take my order I took a look at this wing challenge they offer.

Where's Adam Richman?

Where’s Adam Richman?

While I like spicy food.  I’m not that big of a fan to subject my mouth, digestive track, and gates to the fury of this wing challenge.  At any rate back home I assembled the line up.

My Smoke Shack Sampler

That right there ladies and gentlemen is their Mac N Cheese, Jalapeno Poppers, Plain Wings, and Cornmeal crusted Catfish sandwich.  With great anticipation  my mouth got to watering…

Ahh...The understanding of the Wings!!!

Ahh…The understanding of the Wings!!!

Understanding the Wing

You’re gonna get ate son!!!!

Perfectly Golden Jalapeno Poppers.

Perfectly Golden Jalapeno Poppers.

Piercing this bad boy was such sweet sorrow :D

Piercing this bad boy was such sweet sorrow 😀

And so I went about finding out whether the inside tasted as good as the outside looked…

Hawhaaat!!!? Much like the signal for scoring a touchdown...It's Good!!!!

Hawhaaat!!!? Much like the signal for scoring a touchdown…It’s Good!!!!

I retrieved my trusty tool and plucked my first bite from it’s spot hesitating momentarily before satisfaction would be mine.

At this moment I began to sing ""I'm a fool...Such a fool...For You!!! Lol!!!

At this moment I began to sing “”I’m a fool…Such a fool…For You!!! Lol!!!  Hynotism thy name is Mac N Cheese.

The Mac N Cheese was very good.  It had the right amount of creamy cheesiness to it and wasn’t over salted.  Of course the breadcrumb topping just puts it over the top compared to plain Mac N Cheese sans topping.  Up next came the Cornmeal Crusted Catfish Sandwich.

Yassum!!!

Yassum!!!

Lorda Mercy!!!

Lord a Mercy!!!

In a word...Yes!!!!!

In a word…Yes!!!!!

First off the catfish is perfectly crusted and fried.  The catfish just melts in your mouth with each bite.  I added a little mayo to balance things out.  This is a must try if you manage to stop by this place.

The wings got dunked in some of The Smoke Shack's house made BBQ Sauce. Tangy and Sweet!!! Mmmm Mmmm Son!!!!

The wings got dunked in some of The Smoke Shack’s house made BBQ Sauce. Tangy and Sweet!!! Mmmm Mmmm Son!!!!

After disposing of the wings I turned my attention to waylaying the remainder of my meal.  The following is the conclusion.

Going Going...

What Mac N Cheese?

What Mac N Cheese?

Completion

There is no doubt that I will be back to eat here again.  If you haven’t been fortunate to try the fare at BBQue’s Smoke Shack don’t waste any more time.  They are worth their price of admission.  Wings are some of the best I’ve had in the city but jury is still out on their trophy in my opinion.  I’ll reserve that title once I’ve had some more highly touted wings around the city.  The Catfish Sandwich is excellent.  Mac N Cheese is equally good and the Jalapeno Poppers definitely hold their own against say those offered at 99 miles to Philly.  My overall rating for the experience is 4 and 1/2 dinner plates out of 5.

Till next Food Adventure this has been THEJNSREPORT’S: BBQue’s Smoke Shack Experience 2013.

Welcome to THEJNSREPORT’S: Privacy…Do you mind?

Written by T.D Moody

I’ll be the first to admit that I happen to love technology.  Not all of its incarnations and variants but mostly the most beneficial and time-saving devices and gadgets that can and often times does make life a bit easier and/or simpler.  Advances in medical procedures and anesthesiology, the computers and robots used for advanced and complicated surgeries are some examples.

That being said after reading a few articles on the upcoming “Google Glass” I have no doubt that privacy is being dealt another death-blow with devices as powerful as the early impressions of Google Glass come forth by techies, supporters, and detractors alike.

Years ago while reading some tech content I remember seeing it said that the technology available to the average consumer is actually 50 years or more behind what’s actually possible now and that the technology is suppressed and doled out in piece meal installments for several reasons.

One of these reasons and probably the most obvious is profits.  Each iteration of a new “hi-tech” device comes with some modest upgrades but is still far less than what’s actually possible yet people will want the upgrade and continue to chase and pay for the progression.  I think that’s a natural part of mankind to want to keep getting better and wanting more, and more, and more.

I think back to my days as a kid playing video games on Coleco Vision (for those old enough to remember it) at a friend’s place before Atari and Nintendo came on the scene.  Then came the Sega Master System followed by Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo.  Each system boasted technological upgrades and games that improved on performance and graphic displays.  Game play and overall execution of games was the stronghold of Nintendo for years over even the Sega Genesis.

This was due in large part to the fact that while Genesis sported better specs and graphics performance from a 16 bit system versus an 8 bit Nintendo, Nintendo’s games were better thought out more developed, more rewarding, and challenging than Genesis games which were merely eye candy with little substance in terms of game play and endings.

Today it’s XBox 360, PS3 (PS4 coming soon), and PC gaming.  How times have changed.  Did I mention even the privacy policies of the current gaming consoles are lengthy, wordy, and essentially basically state the system can spy on you through your agreed use of it and agreeing to its terms of service policy.  Playing games online, links to accounts it’s everywhere.

Now with the news of the upcoming release of Google Glass mixed reviews are coming in where privacy comes to the forefront and is in the spotlight like never before with the availability of social media and instant uploads and sharing.

One doesn’t have to see the potential for abuse and more secretive spying into the lives of ordinary people where we are all the reporters and the reported.  When given technology without the restraints and safeguards to respect and protect personal privacy, there is no place left where anything is private.  Every conversation had can recorded in one’s own home.  Willing surveillance of one’s every move is possible and treated as some simple novelty or toy and nothing more.

Knowing people are people and will push any boundaries or limits in front of them when there is no restraint is good enough reason to view this technological advance with trepidation.  Is it true that every one wants to be a celebrity?  I don’t believe so but with Google Glass and it’s sure to come successors and competitors, the potential to turn every one into a “celebrity” is real whether wanted or not.  It’ll be like “Smile” your on the Net” , “Smile your on the toilet and we all can see your …ewww!!! In real-time.”

Now with seemingly random killings in unsuspected areas popping up all over, a social climate is emerging in which it is becoming an accepted norm in order to “feel safe” to surveil everything and everyone and some how no privacy = security.  In actuality it equals total enslavement.  NO FREEDOM.  History is repeating itself and most of us are happily, blissfully, distracted with gadgets and toys that spy on us even more so than having a soldier quartered in our own homes.

Google Glass seems benign on the surface as it’s just being introduced, but isn’t that the way all things start out?  Small, a seed, baby step after baby step in progression until it reaches it’s fullness and we’re all staring at each other in disbelief at the horrors we collectively allowed to grow and fall upon us.  Orwellian depicted Police States rising all over the world in the name of “Peace and Security” is very frightening and very real.

Educating ourselves and not being so caught up in the bells and whistles of the latest gadgets and gizmo’s to the point of being willfully ignorant is crucial.  It seems the more tech dependent we become and the more surveillance we accept, the easier it becomes to see the invisible bars and prisons we’re all in.  Very much like in the movie “The Matrix”

If this seems too unreal and far fetched, I suggest going around the city and counting the number of surveillance cameras that are openly displayed in public.  From the subway stations, to the new buses that have cameras all throughout, to buildings inside and out.  Then consider how many satellites there are watching us from the sky and the advanced real-time capabilities of GPS.  Is it really that difficult to believe or are we “tuning it out” and refusing to see what’s in plain sight?

Mini computers that can monitor our every movement will be marketed as the newest “Hi-tech” advance that should be embraced without resistance or questioning of its true purpose and/or potentials.  How I want to wake from this nightmare.  The president’s speech on U.S. government authorized drone strike policy is somehow supposed to instill confidence in authorized killings of any target deemed “terror suspect” or “person of interest”.

To me that’s like saying,”Anyone can be considered is a potential terrorist or extremist when they question the policies and actions of government.”  “We need to go over to this country and kill 200 people because according to our records these people are classified and approved as terrorist groups and extremists with links to weapons of mass destruction.”  How do we confirm these classifications is there any oversight?

I remember President Obama in one of his re-election campaign speeches saying not that we the American people needed “Smaller” Government as our nation’s founders intended but “Smarter” Government like those hideous and frightening IBM ads popping up all over the place as if they are improving the world for people.

Everything is happening the way it is for a reason it is no coincidence.  America is at a crossroads this is true as President Obama said in his speech, but the future nation being left to the children of tomorrow is nothing more than a stolen future and guarantee of enslavement.  I fear being older and living to see the younger generations of today and tomorrow looking back in history at my generation and the generations before mine that are responsible for their future.

President Obama tells us the future of terrorism is home-grown and foreign.  No one is safe.  Problem…Reaction…Solution.  Game Over.  “Oversight?”  What Oversight?  There is supposed to be in place already the traditional checks and balances in government.  Obfuscating the main issue with spin and word play is in my mind an inexhaustible skill being utilized again and again in speeches to assure us that the Government is actually doing things that will help us, the People.
