The “Angry Black Man” Argument

Welcome to THEJNSREPORT’S: “The Angry Black Man Argument”

Written by T.D Moody

Often times, in mid discussion with some people I find that as a mode of convenience the term “Angry Black Man” get’s tossed around as if it’s some sort of super defense mechanism to diffuse confrontation or addressing issues when dealing with Black Men.  Recently, while hanging out with a few friends of mine I found myself being called an “Angry Black Man”.

The funny thing about the situation was that I wasn’t even angry.  What actually made me stop and think and then actually tackle the subject was the fact that the term was thrown at me in my opinion simply as a reflex by someone who I don’t think has a full understanding or concept of what it is to be angry let alone label someone as an “Angry Black Man”.

I also realized that in taking on this topic I’d have to break down a few things for the less informed or those who think that because they claim or believe they or their ancestry was not directly involved in the atrocities enacted against my heritage and ancestry that they are some how innocent and don’t benefit from practices that were in place from way before any of us were gleams in our father’s and mother’s eyes.

Being of African-American descent and native to America in as much as I was born here to immigrant parents, I do understand the history of my people and background and realize that the struggle and all the prejudices and arguments that my forefathers and foremothers bore in their time has not changed or ceased to exist no matter how much people shuck and jive and close their eyes in today’s world claiming how “far we’ve come” since the Civil Rights Era.

I began my argument first by stating A) I was not angry but rather simply put, stating my opinion with emphasis and confidence in what I was saying.  I find often times when a Black man or Minority is able to articulate his points in the same manner as say someone of a different ethnic background he is automatically labeled as “Angry”.  I in turn ask the accuser, why do you say that I’m angry?  Typically the response I get is… you’re big, you’re black, and you’re intimidating.  My first inclination is to say well you’re an idiot!!  However, I reply by asking again what does my skin color or my size have to do with you labeling me as angry?

I was so dumb for so long not really getting the fact that they really and truly had no argument and actually were telling me more about them than they realized.  Generally speaking, if I were to be a person who for well over four centuries benefited from the rape, murder, enslavement, forced labor and exploitation of a single group of people like none other on the face of the planet, I imagine that any time I engaged a member from that group, it’d behoove me to label them as angry to try and diffuse the karma due me and my people.  I honestly believe that is at the center of the argument.

“It wasn’t me, I didn’t do anything, neither did my father.  We love black folk”.   If you are still reading up to this point then I give you props for not being a guilt ridden coward or ignorant person who can’t see past his/her nose.  Digressing for a moment but still relevant to this topic.  I’d also add several movies to my Film Committee selections from years ago while still an undergraduate studying Political Science and taking Theory of Human Freedom Classes.

One film that we had to watch during my studies was “Rosewood” another one which I’d seen years earlier was “Mississippi Burning” followed up with “Amistad”.  I ask anyone who has seen any of these films if after seeing this period pieces whether or not they looked or thought about the world and the people around them the same.

I know it to be the truth that we as human beings can be so dumb, so ignorant, so shortsighted, or just plain old blind deaf and dumb to what is real and really matters.  It’s moments like now when I imagine the phrase, “The shoes on the other foot”.

Imagine it.  A world where roles were reversed and White people suffered at the hands of Black people the way Black people have suffered throughout history at the hands of White people.  How many white people would enjoy having some idiot come up to them to tell them that they are “Angry White Men”?  Or ask them why are you so angry while simply expressing your view point?  I believe it allows them to feel like they are some how some sublime, emotionless, calm vessels in a tumultuous storm of chaos.

Firstly, we are all human beings period, no matter where in this world we’re born or our ethnic background.  We are born human beings.   Secondly,  I’ve yet to meet a person no matter what their ethnic background that lacks all the full emotions that every human being has including anger.

I told the person who accused me of being an “Angry Black Man” he didn’t know what he was talking about because to see me angry would look unequivocally like nothing he’d ever seen from me before.  I went on to explain that if he’d actually ever seen me “Angry” there’s no way he’d ever make the mistake he’d just made.

The “Angry Black Man” to me is nothing more than an artificial label a “Straw Man” argument because real dialogue is too scary for most people to engage in for fear of where reason and logic will take them.  A sobering look at reality and history is too much for some so labeling by default spares them having to actually get their feet wet and come face to face with the past, present, and future.

I’ll end for now on a note that I find very apropo at the moment.  The late great Tupac Shakur coined the Acronym T.H.U.G.L.I.F.E.  For those who think they know what he meant when he coined the term, let me give you some education.

Tupac stated that Thuglife stands for The Hate U Gave Little Infants Fucks Everybody!!!!!  Food for thought.  It had nothing to do with the ghetto fabulous BS image perpetrated today by many wanna be rappers and their uneducated good for nothing commercial rap fans and inner city lost youths.

The Film Committee

Welcome to THEJNSREPORT’S: The Film Committee 2nd edition

Ok so in the last Film Committee report an abbreviated list of films made the list for 2012 regardless of production date for the film.  Keeping within that same vein, here are some more films that are must haves for your film library.

Akan Bosemann

For me and having recently dealt with the topic covered in one of all time favorite films which I’m about to tell you.  One of my favorite must own films is “North Country” starring Oscar winning Best Actress Charlize Theron.  Theron plays the lead role in a serious drama that covers sexual harassment, rape, and family all within a powerful story of perseverance and suffering. My next pick “The Help”.

T.D Moody

For money I’ll give you an oldie by today’s standards but a a good film of the late Great Tupac Shakur, costarring with Thandie Newton, and Tim Roth!!!   “Gridlock’d”  The film is palpable full of tension and ambivalence and for anyone whose been hooked on drugs in any of its forms legal or illegal, this film will resonate and give a visual, visceral and emotional ride from beginning to end.  This is a classic and another example of the amazing talent of Tupac.

Most people and youth of today who’ve missed out being born during the Golden era for Hip Hop only know the commercial bullshit pushed by Corporate America.  Tupac went to school for acting as well as doing his music.  The incredible life and influence Tupac stands for is embodied in his fields of influence.  First field of influence in my opinion was and will always be his music.  The unprecedented number of works he completed prior to his murder speaks for itself!  I digress for me “Gridlock’d” is a must film for all film enthusiasts.  Not for children.

Steve. D

I don’t know why but for me as much as I’d like to name a slew of films to watch from the “2000’s” I can’t shake the idea of sitting at home alone in the dark, surround sound on “night theatre mode”, and a bowl of tostitos and salsa while hesitantly, if not willingly watching “The Exorcist” 1973 based on the book by William Peter Blatty.  I don’t care who did what and shows me whatever.  This is the “Scariest Movie of all Time”!!!  I saw this is as an 8 year old while eating  and threw up.  I couldn’t eat fried chicken after that.  I know I was traumatized.

The freaky thing about all this is as a kid I knew the film of scary but I didn’t see it all the way through or understand it.  Watching the film as an adult and fully understanding the real horror of that scenario acted out on screen and hearing of all the eery accidents during the production of that film.  This is a must in your film library.

Jesse Murphy

I like all of the above film nods.  I’m not as versed as some of the others but for me a must have film for anyone who’s a movie buff’s library would be “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”.  Need I say more???? Well saying more…how about “Black Swan”?  Natalie Portman’s my sister’s favorite actress.  This role I think she deservedly hands down had to win Best Actress for all film awards including the Oscars, which she won.  I don’t want to give the plot away to anyone who hasn’t seen the film or lives under a rock but I’ll say if you haven’t seen this film watch this film.  Best part of it for me is it’s set and shot right here in NYC.

Feel free to tell us your favorite must own films.

Sidewalk & Staircase Etiquette 101

Welcome to THEJNSREPORT’S: Sidewalk & Staircase Etiquette 101

Stairs N Escalators

For the purposes of this report I am finally touching on an invaluable social etiquette that I feel has fallen by the wayside and it must be mentioned.  Sidewalk and Staircase etiquette may seem like at first glance to be a common sense everyone possesses.

However, I’ve come to the conclusion that the selfishness of people has gotten to a point where even the simplest of social gestures that is so important to the well being of communities and cities at large to functioning in a proper fashion, has eroded to a point to where  it can lead to violence and bad intentions of one person to another and that action spreading like a plague world wide.  Just the other week I was watching the news and heard mention of a subway rider being shoved onto the train tracks and was killed by the oncoming train.  Why do things like that happen?

If you’re reading this and still following me let’s go further now into what I’m speaking to.  Case in point, in Europe the flow of traffic flows opposite of that here in the Western Hemisphere.  Cars drive on the left side of the road in alternate north/south or east/west directions.

They have the steering wheel of the car on what is the passenger side of a car built for the North American car market.  Do we ever wonder why that is?  Driving here in the U.S. cars drive on the right side of the road alternately in whatever direction one is headed.  The flow of traffic has a specific purpose.

It is the same for people when walking on sidewalks and up and down staircases be they in buildings or subways.  We are people and walking on the sidewalk however much one might feel it is their personal runway or catwalk, is public use and as such has tacit and implicit if not unwritten rules that say be conscious of your fellow woman/man.

One of my biggest peeves with people while out in public aside from the selfish behavior I witness on subways and buses is the idea that walking opposite the flow of foot traffic is wise and should not be met with resistance, anger or frustration.  I blame Sex and the City partly for this.  In the ads and promos of Sex and the City you see the girls walking four wide down the streets of New York as if they are the only people on the street.

In the real New York City this can’t be tolerated.  There are too many people trying to emulate that scene as if it’s the norm.  If say you are walking with three other people on a sidewalk that has enough room for four people two on each side of the sidewalk walking in opposite directions comfortably, common sense says that you should only walk four wide if there is really no traffic coming back in the opposite direction.

Yet daily I witness “geniuses” walking taking up the entire sidewalk as if they are royalty or the only people deserving of pavement.  Exhibit A below.  Notice the four people to the right of the picture.  Then notice the person to the far left walking against the flow of traffic.  While there are no people at this time coming in the opposite direction, if there was someone coming in the opposite direction there would be a confrontation unless someone yielded the right of way.  In my experience usually the person who is in the wrong thinks that the person with the right of way should be the one to acquiesce.

Exhibit A

We have to do better as a society in how we interact with and treat one another.  Clearly lack of respect for others goes around all day and all night.  On escalators there is another common sense etiquette that has seemingly been forgotten.  If you are a lazy, unaware, or just physically unfit person who can’t walk up the stairs or escalators, standing to the right hand side of the escalator is essential in order to allow people who want to get past to go on their way without having to wait behind someone who has no interest in getting to where they are going as quickly as some others would.

And lastly, just as I stated about the flow of traffic earlier, on the staircase it follows the same principle.  Going up (if it’s the only staircase available) the stairs on the right hand side and allowing the left hand side for opposite direction traffic flow is common sense.  I’ve seen it where people refuse this basic courtesy leading to shoving and yelling matches between people.  This is especially true in the subways.  We can’t all get along without the use and practice of respect and common sense for one another.

Till next time this has been another report by THEJNSREPORT.  Also coming soon new food adventures.

Lebron

Welcome to THEJNSREPORT’S: Lebron aka King James and playing like it!

Written by T.D Moody

Ok, I finally give in.  Not that I didn’t like Lebron, I was with him even up to his collapse against the Mavericks in the finals 2 seasons ago.  It was at that point that I felt much like a certain Firsttake Commentator Skip Bayless that Lebron would never get another opportunity  to again get the ring.  He just collapsed when it mattered most.

I began to think that Durant would surpass him as the game’s best player.  Fast forward a year later in the finals and Lebron and Miami give the young Thunder exactly what Dallas gave Miami for Nowitzski’s first and so far only championship.  Durant is still deadly but has a bit more improvement to go defensively I feel but he too the sky’s the limit on his game.

I decided to ride with OKC my team to win the title especially the way handled the Lakers and came back and smashed the vaunted Spurs.  Part of me still wanted Lebron to  get his ring.  Even in the face of unrelenting, unmerciful ridicule from fellow sports fan friends of mine about Lebron being Gollum from Lord of the Rings.  There was even a caricature of Lebron as Gollum lusting and yearning for the ring while Dirk was portrayed as the Hero with the ring.

I didn’t want to laugh but I did when I saw it. That being said.  What a story from his coming out of Akron to 10 seasons into his pro career.  He’s a world champ and clearly the game’s best premier player today.  His skill set and talents rival that of Jordan and make him in my opinion with his potential the perfect prototype player ever.  I say this because in my opinion the best player would be a versatile player who could play physically all 5 positions on the floor with the skill, speed, power, athleticism and intelligence most importantly of the elitist athletes known.

It’s like create a player for virtual basketball games.  Every person I know who plays video games when creating a player always tries to fill every category in the attributes section of create a player to the highest level possible.  That would make the person pretty much a “God” in the game because he can do everything at the highest level.  How can you stop a player like that?  You can’t.

He’s not perfect (Lebron) yet but his continually improving game is scary.  Clearly the maturation of Lebron’s game to all facets of the game combined with his unique physical talents and ambidextrous playing ability, make him quite simply an “unguardable” player.  There are really only a handful of player’s in my opinion who dwell within this realm.  Today’s game has maybe 8.  Of those 8 I’d estimate maybe three are in that realm consistently.  I’ll give you my three.  Kevin Durant, Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony-Dwade tie at 3.  Kobe has faded some but is still capable but he’s currently at number 4 on the down turn of his illustrious Hall of Fame worthy career.

Who would you put as the elite 8?  Who would be your top 3 and in what order?

Sunday Dinner

Welcome to THEJNSREPORT’S: SUNDAY DINNER AT HOME

After an intense week I took Sunday to myself and decided to stay in and relax doing nothing but laying in bed.  By late evening I was ready for dinner but prepared nothing all day.  I was in no mood to order out and decided I’d better see what I had in the fridge only to find that my amazing mother had cooked me a Sunday dinner.  Thanks Mom!!! Below are some pics of the amazing tasting and healthy meal I was lucky enough to have.  Ladies and Gentlemen I give you…The Main Event

Sunday Dinner

Oh yes!!!! Mother can cook and cooks superbly.  I get to enjoy Salmon, Stuffing, Wild Rice, and Spinach.  You understand??!  I’d never even thought of such a delicious food combination.  I had to look at the wild rice for a minute just taking it in visually.  After a fork full of the Wild Rice I have to say it has a strong unique look and textural taste.  My salmon was cooked perfectly.  The stuffing was an unexpected treat as usually I only really eat stuffing at Thanksgiving and the Spinach was well Spinach just plain good for you.

Just look at the Salmon and ponder it.  MMmm mmmm my Mom loves me yes indeed.

Salmon Up Close

I attacked the Spinach as the healthiest thing on my plate with vigor and didn’t let it stay around for any further questioning.  Stuffing was up next.

The Stuffing!!!!

Last Salmon Bite

The Wild Rice was gone too before the last bites of Stuffing and Salmon.  I’ll have to try my hand at making this sometime.  I mean this meal is something I would order at a restaurant.  I thank God for mother’s like mine.  Till next time this has been another report by THEJNSREPORT.

Gun Control Part II

Welcome to THEJNSREPORT’S: Gun Control Part II

Written by Akan Bosemann

VS

The sad shocking reality of how people can so easily be manipulated into giving up their rights is giving me a headache.  I say this is lieu of the recent new gun control laws to hit the books for both NY state and California.  In descriptions of the new laws many called them Draconian.  In one of the articles I read some of the proposed changes includes confiscation of semi automatic hand guns and even further reduced ammo capacities to as low as single shot rounds.

For those who are old enough to remember old war films where the soldiers could only fire one shot at a time before having to reload by kneeling then pouring gun powder into the barrels and then loading their single round into the barrel of the gun before being able to fire another shot led to many soldiers being killed while trying to reload their weapons.

I’m sure many victims of gun violence will not hear what gun advocates will have to say because for them the loss of a family member has clouded their perspectives as to what is really at stake.  And what is at stake plain and simple is Freedom.  Sovereignty of nations and people at large.   I don’t say this lightly merely as a point of fact.

Let’s look at the series of events.  Gun shootings across the country over the past 2 years, including a woman senator who after partially recovering advocates on Capital Hill for something to be done regarding Gun Control.  Movie theater shootings during “Batman The Dark Knight Rises” sparks outcry for more gun control once again.  Then finally the Sandy Hook Elementary Massacre to get people hopping mad and insane with anger at the innocent children killed by guns.

Interesting enough I bet most people don’t know that in Batman’s The Dark Knight Rises on a map in one scene Sandy Hook is displayed.  Is that foreshadowing the real life events of Sandy Hook or merely coincidence?  Google it for yourself to see if I’m just blowing smoke.

There will always be a resistance to tyranny and evil even if it seems impossible to win.  This is because real patriots and educated citizenry know and recognize that guns are essential in the preservation of liberty and as the enforcement of what a civilized society would deem the inalienable rights given to mankind by God.

Knee jerk reactions to atrocities I believe are part of a larger conspiracy to drive public opinion towards disarmament.  Let’s look at the logic behind this push for more gun control.  Take alcohol.  Prohibition didn’t work because people would manufacture their own alcohol no matter what the government said.  Secondly, prohibition led to the rise of organized crime syndicates who knew that the demand for alcohol would not be quelled by legislation and if the people want to do something no law created by government could stop them.

Yet despite the fact that alcohol has been shown to kill so many people every year whether it be drunk driving, or cirrhosis of the liver from heavy long term alcohol consumption, it’s still legal to sell advertise, and consume.  Should there be a ban on the type of alcohol that can be bought and sold like say only 40 oz of malt liquor can be sold versus cases of beer.  That’ll make us healthier right?  Give me a break!!  As per the CDC ( Center for Disease Control) Cigarettes are responsible for more than 5 million deaths each year.  Where’s the public outcry that something has to be done to get rid of Cigarettes?  Where’s the make cigarettes illegal?!!!

Why has there been no push for it to be made illegal?  Perhaps not enough young children have been killed by alcohol and cigarettes for there to be the type of “public” outcry against it.  Either way only fools who don’t understand logic will think that Safe means no protection.  And for the idiots who say that’s what the police and military are for, look at the news look at archives of how many abuses by military personnel and police officers alike have and continue to occur everyday.

Government especially big government is not to be trusted.  Willful incompetence and corruption reign supreme.  I’ll say it again history has shown us that those who don’t learn from the past are doomed to repeat it.  We are being herded and controlled and disarmed for what is coming.

One world government where we as people have no power, no rights, and no means of defense against a military industrial complex who is the dog of the elites used to subdue and oppress everyone else who is not part of the elitist inner circle and agenda.  Really it’s ridiculous to see them tell us right to our faces what they are going to do to us and then carry it out without hardly any outcry or resistance except for the agendas being pushed by them through our “elected” more like selected representatives in government.

I say in the immortal words of Patrick Henry give me liberty or give me death because a life in prison and under the rule of tyranny is no life, is no freedom, and is not worth living period.  And most people have to understand that being a coward will not make you any safer.

Think of all the patriot ads the U.S military puts on TV.  “Global force for good?” Yeah right. Ask yourself why is it anywhere the U.S military goes there is so much resistance to occupation?  Why are our troops so hated around the world when our media is telling us and the world that our forces are spreading democracy and protecting our freedoms at home?

Again he who has the gun controls those who don’t have the gun.  Look at it in more simple terms.  Bow and Arrow vs Glock.  Winner Glock.  Gattling gun vs 6 shooter.  Winner Gattling gun.  Nuclear weapons vs conventional fire arms.  Winner no one as nuclear weapons will destroy us all.

However, here’s the rub, the M.A.D ideology (Mutually Assured Destruction) of years past is still the main deterrent for other nuclear armed nations from using nukes against each other.  IE gun for gun, nuke for nuke “if I go so do you.”  Respect is had for those who have the tools to defend their stance.

Does a soldier respect an unarmed civilian? We’ve seen that the answer emphatically is No he does not.  A soldier respects other armed combatants because he/she is cognizant of the fact that an armed combatant can fight back and potentially kill the soldier.  We are already at war.  The only thing is most of us don’t know it.  We must remember the constitution and those who have been sworn in to protect it against all foes foreign and domestic.

It appears that those words are just words and don’t mean anything to the people in high government positions who are with the flick of a pen and the enforcement of our military usurping our rights and telling us it’s to make us Safe.  We are not safe.

The movie Batman: The Dark Knight spoke to this.  Cleverly, it tried to convince us that putting out trust and power in the hands of one man to make all the decisions regarding the public was wise when clearly that is foolhardy and what leads to Dictatorships, oppression, and all the evils and atrocities associated with Unilateral rule by man who is above all else corrupt.  the founding fathers had a clear understanding of this which is why they had the separation of powers.

We are marching towards the end of the world with speed.  The Bible warns of all these things and yet many continue to disbelieve and focus on their little worlds and materialism.  It’s only when terror and the horrors many others suffer around the world is experienced personally that people begin to care and want to do something other wise it’s the same old attitude of “Oh wow that’s horrible and sad, time for dinner.

Where is the Supreme Court in all this?  Why isn’t there a judicial review of these state laws being passed that are clearly unconstitutional?  And why are our representatives voting on bills they have been given twenty minutes before voting on them?  I agree with the notion no representative should vote on any bill they’ve never seen or read prior to a vote.  In that case the vote should be if held “NO”.

I’ll end on this note.  Remember court shows like Judge Judy or the People’s Court where the Judge tells the litigants you should have read what you were signing before you made the deal.  We are doing the same thing with our rights.  I.E not reading the contract before signing it.  It’s time for us to wake up.  I whole-heartedly support the 2nd Amendment and the responsible use and ownership of guns.

The Cheese Cake Episodes: Episode 1

Welcome to THEJNSREPORT’S: The Cheese Cake Episodes

Like most people, if not all, I on occasion love to have a really good desert.  One of my favorite deserts to have is Cheesecake.  It just so happens that in my limited spare time I enjoy making cheesecakes from scratch.

Ladies and Gentlemen, what you are about to witness is the culmination of a special birthday Cheesecake I made for a good friend of mine’s Birthday today.  Without further ado I give you The Cheesecake Episodes: Episode 1.  My Torched Cherry Strawberry Cheesecake.

My Torched Cherry Strawberry CheeseCake Masterpiece

While you can’t really see it in the photos the strawberries in the center of the cake have all been sugar-coated.  This is the first Strawberry themed Cheesecake I’ve ever made but it’s definitely one of the best I’ve ever made as well.  How much do you think a cake like that would cost if it were bakery bought?  To help you with that calculation.  Take into account that my cake is 12 inches in diameter and nearly 3 inches in height.

I can’t wait for my friend to taste his special birthday cake.  This is my own personal recipe made cake with secret ingredients that I shall not divulge. 😉  And while you can’t see the base of the cake as it’s still in the pan, I didn’t slack a minute.  I made a graham cracker crust for the cake also and used some of the left over graham cracker crumbs to top the cake.

Prep time was approximately 45 mins for the organization and prep for the crust and batter.  Bake time was another 1 and 1/2 hours at 275 degrees for the first hour and then reduced to 250 degrees the last half hour before being left to cool in the oven and then transferring to the fridge for overnight cooling.  I generally let my cakes cool at least an hour or so before moving them to the fridge to cool.

Stay tuned for upcoming update episodes.  Till next time this has been The Cheesecake Episodes: Episode 1 by THEJNSREPORT.  If you have comments or want to share a recipe tip feel free to leave a comment.
