Welcome to THEJNSREPORT’S: “Affluenza”: Reflection
Upon first hearing about this case my thoughts were “what the hell “was I listening to?! A young suburban white kid from an affluent background got wasted, got behind the wheel of a motor vehicle, drove drunk, & killed (4) people while injuring an additional (9) people. I was in total disbelief that this kid was set free by the courts with the most asinine defense I’ve ever heard of…”Affluenza”.
On first hearing this word “Affluenza” that didn’t exist (before this case as far as I’m aware) what does it conjures in the mind if not a prescription drug commercial?
This kid’s defense attorney coined “Affluenza” and blamed not the spoiled youth who drove willfully impaired but his privileged background. Claiming that being raised with no boundaries or restrictions enabled if not created this tragedy.
So who’s to blame if not the person who caused these tragic events with poor decision-making. His parents do have their share of culpability but that shouldn’t let this killer kid completely off the hook.
To add insult to death and injury, having been let go with not even a slap on the wrist he’s recorded on video drinking at a party after all this. Seriously, who does that? The video that surfaced caused him and his family to flee because they knew once that video came to light he’d be thrown in jail as he should have been in the first place.
The judge who let him go looks down right stupid if not incompetent for having allowed his release. It’s appallingly clear that the victim’s lives weren’t as important to the judge as the deep pockets of his parents.
What does this mean for future defendants in the same position with far less than an affluent background? What should happen (if and when) he and his mother are apprehended by police or federal agents?
