Sadly, Dignity & Integrity are fast becoming some of the unfortunately truly dying Ethical Couples of modern time. America was and still should be one of the foremost standing examples of “Civilized Society”; today these two virtues are growing increasingly weak & smothered!
Believe it or not, just this holiday past, I was told of an unscrupulous health care worker showcasing not only a lack of integrity with almost no dignity; but a desire to needlessly flaunt undeserved animosity towards the client in her care .
Her disgraceful behavior almost completely ruined this nationalistic celebration of gratefulness for all the positive aspects of life.
Here’s the heinous scenario as it was relayed to me:
The client, a seriously physically disadvantaged yet independent thinking & feeling person, ran some last-minute errands a couple of days before the big November event.
Fortunately, this person made it through the day without using any public restrooms and was all set to finally relieve mother nature’s call once home. The severity of the situation was relayed with great urgency to the aide once again upon arrival at the home front.
When the client immediately made for the bathroom, the “caretaker” selfishly lagged behind. After waiting a couple of minutes for the assistant to catch up and help, the client went to discover what the delay was, that held her up from relieving herself.
Upon back-tracking from the front door, the aide was found in the middle of a personal meal prep.
When confronted about this unbelievably inconsiderate behavior the healthcare worker defiantly shouted out her extreme need to eat right then and there.
She further went on some ridiculous rant about not being a servant and her determination to make sure her needs were met first and seen as paramount over all circumstances.
The client pointed out all the immediate obvious flaws in the “aide’s” extremely misguided reasoning:
The client did nothing to cross the worker aside from inquiring about why she was left unattended at such an important time (especially after not bothering the aide about that matter all day).
This simple staple service was a directly part of her paid duties.
The unruly “worker” responded with an even more heightened outburst and then moved on to demanding the client SHUT UP! and just deal with it and stop from answering back.
The client realizing she was dealing with a delusional selfish dimwit, she promptly informed her that she would not be talked to nor treated so horribly in her own home.
The offender continued to carry on and increased her intimidation tactics to the point of not only shouting in the face of the client with both hands on either armrest, but making threats with the “you better just take it and like it” attitude.
Thankfully, the courageous individual, forced to meet such distasteful behavior so close to being surrounded by family company & comforts, stayed calm and let the offender know she would not be treated in such a way in her own home especially not by someone who was being paid to help in the very basic quality of life staples.
The remedy is to constantly remind everyone, especially those in the healthcare industry,to work with a mindset, Exactly how would I want to be treated if roles were reversed?
