Welcome to THEJNSREPORT’S Double Standard of Violence in Society
Written by Akan Bosemann
Recently in the news there is a viral video circulating on the net of an older black male bus operator in Ohio who was suspended for punching a black female passenger who had not paid the fare to ride the bus.
First off let the facts be made clear. Violence is a part of human society no matter how much people act or think they are immune or above it, or whether people think that in the same situation having the benefit of seeing the video that they would have reacted differently. Secondly, for the misinformed it was not a teenage girl who was struck it was a 25 year old woman with no class or respect or money for that matter who I find interestingly enough had placed all of the passengers including herself in danger when she engaged the bus operator while the bus was in motion.
Women want equality under the law right? Equal treatment right? Well clearly that’s not the case when a woman can assault a man first and then feign innocence and the fact that he’s a man and she’s a woman as the sole reason he should not defend himself after. That alone says you know better than to attack a man if that is your position. It also disregards the fact that he’s a human being and like all human beings we have a threshold for patience and anger. You are not always able to control your emotions in every situation and I’m sure some will say he could have pulled over and called the police and waited but it’s easy to say that in hindsight. What if she had a weapon on her? Should he wait to be assaulted with a weapon before he defends himself? While I don’t condone men striking women I can understand why it happened in this instance.
Imagine that he had crashed the bus and killed some if not all the passengers or even other motorists on the road? Who would say damn that was a female? Her greatest error in her being disrespectful was thinking that putting her hands on him would have no consequences simply because she was female.
There are several clips of the video where more of the initial argument is shown where the bus operator is telling her “Spit on me then bitch!” In my opinion that sounds like the retaliatory words of someone who has been threatened that they will be spit upon. Whether the woman actually spit on him is unclear to me but from what I saw in that video she got upset not when she was insulting him and cussing him out and not even when he responded letting her know that he would rather have his daughter or grand daughter whoop her ass. That alone should tell you the bus operator didn’t even want to engage her because she was female but she insisted.
She only really got beside herself with true stupidity when he said it looked as if her face had already been sliced up and the passengers laughed at his comment and not hers. As soon as she heard the laughter she then went and put both her hands on the bus driver while the bus was still in motion. That act alone warranted her getting her ass beat and not just because she now crossed the line physically, but because she could have caused a serious accident. The bus was still in motion!!!!
The double standard of society is that some people seem to think that gender gives one member of society the right to assault the member of the opposite sex and then retreat to the law for protection from retaliation. Here is a basic tenet that most people with common sense and reasoning skills should accept and know. Whether the passenger was male or female, the moment one entertains and engages in an assault on someone else there are no rules of engagement. The Bus company rules or conduct policy may come to bare but no one thinks about that when they are under attack period.
In the streets there are no rules. Act at your own peril. Now, if you are of the mindset that a man should never hit a woman in any circumstance even in self defense you will be the victim many times over for that flawed logic. Here’s a small example to make this point clearer. If you ever see two dogs on a leash being walked and they suddenly come to barking and biting at one another the smaller dog usually is the dog that is at risk of serious injury if allowed to engage the larger dog of the two. And in most cases if both dogs are off the leash and engage in a fight which one usually ends up the worse for wear? Knowing this most small dogs don’t try to attack a larger dog without realizing hey I can get hurt. The smaller dog though is always brave when the larger dog is being restrained and unable to retaliate.
The woman on the bus who got punched was running her mouth a lot like most annoying little dogs do. Huffing and puffing and knowing full well that she is A) Female and B) most likely not as strong and definitely not in the same weight class as the older bus operator. Was there any critical thinking taking place on her part? The answer in short is no. She disregarded the size disparity between them mistake number 1. She disregarded that she was in the wrong for not having the money to partake in the benefits of riding the bus mistake number 2. She stepped up to and put her hands on a man mistake number 3. If you are prepared to step up and take on a man as a man there are some men who will accommodate that act. To make things worse she still wanted more after being tossed off the bus. No one wonders why she didn’t press charges against the bus driver because it’s already a lost cause when you assaulted a civil service employee first. That unfortunate miscalculation got her Mollywopped and way-laid. What if the bus driver was female and the passenger was a black male would anyone say damn she uppercut him that’s wrong that’s a man? No they’d be like wow he got just what he deserved.
And as sure as the sun will shine people will think twice now about assaulting bus operators be it male or female but especially in the case of it being a female aggressor and instigator.
